Aveiro is a city on the west coast of Portugal 70 km south of Porto. It is set along a lagoon called Ria de Aveiro. It's distinguished by its canals navigated by colourful boats (barcos moliceiros), traditionally used to harvest seaweed, now used for tourists. Aveira is also known for its art nouveau buildings, and the Cathedral of Aveiro with its prominent bell tower.
