Haeinsa (해인사, 海印寺: Temple of the Ocean Mudra), is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in the Gaya Mountains in the South Gyeongsang Province of South Korea; it is 100 km inland of Gyeongju. It is pouring with rain as we are within the edge of Typhoon Sanba. Haeinsa is most notable for being the home of the Tripitaka Koreana, the whole of the Buddhist Scriptures carved onto 81,350 wooden printing blocks, which has been housed in the building above since 1398. |
